The development of Calypso Email has been discontinued by MCS Dallas.

Version 3.3 - Current Version
June 23, 2001 3.30.00 (Build 1042) calypso.exe 4,327,305 bytes

This is the current release of Calypso, since MCS Dallas has discontinued the development of Calypso E-Mail. The software is FREEWARE now and OEM licenses for development are still available.

Version 3.2
March 7, 2001 3.20.02.00 (Build 1040) calypso.exe 4,330,125 bytes

This is a maintenance release to fix issues related to the 3.20.01.01 release, as follows:

  • Fixed a problem that occurred when forwarding or duplicating a message from the compose view.
  • When replying to a message, then switching to plain-text mode, the user was prompted with the "are you sure" message, and the reply prefix was not being inserted.
  • Fixed message retrieval to not play the account sound file or display the message box if the messages were discarded thru a filter.
  • Fixed a flag that was incorrect for command line compose /sendnow option.
  • Fixed Show New Messages option (new mail dialog) to not bring up a locked box without prompting for the password.
January 22, 2001 3.20.01.01 (Build 1038) calypso.exe 4,205,135 bytes

This is a maintenance release to fix issues related to the 3.20.01.00 release, as follows:

  • Fixed a bug with importing sent Eudora messages having attachments.
  • Fixed bulk file add / delete operations to print error text in the details in case of failure.
  • Fixed "delete from server after x days" to work with older Message-ID only servers as well. (Originally worked only on UIDL supported servers).
  • Fixed a bug - choosing a Dialup on a system without a modem was accessing an invalid dialog item.
  • Restored ability to use IE settings in dialup (online / offline) property panel.
  • Fixed a weird bug - choosing to Show New Messages, then reply to a message there but not sending it would cause ANOTHER message to get changed to Saved in the list.
  • Fixed a bug - Reassigning from within a filter allowed reassigning of a message still on the server.
  • The Windows call made by DBTool to determine amount of available disk space can report incorrectly on some systems. Changed code to warn of possible low disk space but allow you to choose to continue the servicing.
  • Changed compose frame layout code to actually show maximized if saved maximized.
  • Fixed some problems adding addresses to a new bulk file (e.g. when file does not exist).
  • Grayed out "Group Membership" button from address entry panel when the address hasn't been saved yet.
  • Fixed a bug during Compose - viewing a received message and clicking Redirect would cause GPF on some systems.
  • Fixed code to show the correct font in the header for new HTML messages.
  • Fixed problem - tech support email in tech support panel was wrong.
  • Fixed a bug importing Eudora messages that would sometimes cause a GPF.
January 4, 2001 3.20.01 (Build 1037) calypso.exe 4,204,651 bytes

This is a minor fix / enhancement release as follows:

Filtering Improvements:

  • When creating a filter rule from the message summary list, Calypso now looks at the column you right-clicked in to help fill out the filter rule. For example, right-clicking on a subject field of "Free Trial" and choosing Add to Filter will create a rule looking for "Free Trial" in the subject.
  • Added filter "Cleanup" button to the Filter Definition panel. This will delete all filter rules with a hit count of 0. This is useful for removing junk rules that never have been hit.
  • Changed the filter rules to allow you to specify where to search for pattern 1 and pattern 2 separately. This greatly enhances the power of filtering.
  • Added support for regular expressions in filtering. There are a number of websites with instructions for building regular expressions, including the Rex Regular Expression Pattern Matcher website, or PHPBuilder.com's discussion of Learning to Use Regular Expressions by Example.
  • Added a filter action "Assign to Account". This will allow you to reassign a message to another account. This is useful when you use alot of email aliases.
New Features and Enhancements:
  • Added the following command-line options. These are useful when you have Calypso installed on docking laptop, and want to use a LAN in when docked and a dial-up connection when on the road. (Simply create two shortcuts using the appropriate settings). The new options are:
    • /sysconnect - uses IE system settings
    • /dunconnect - uses dial-up configuration
    • /lanconnect - uses LAN configuration
  • Added right-click drag and drop for messages. You can right-click on one or more messages and drag/drop them on a folder. You will be presented with the following actions:
    • Move Here - same as left drag/drop
    • Move Here and Mark Read - moves the message and marks it as read
    • Copy Here - makes a copy of the message in the target folder
    • Move and Add to Filter - Moves the message and adds the move operation to a filter (similar to right-clicking on a message and choosing Add to Filter)
  • Added new Security Settings tab to the Mailbox/Properties panel. This allows you to enable / disable Rich Text (HTML) messaging. You can also disable the preview pane (keeps HTML messages from running scripts when clicked on), and monitor files. File monitoring provides you with a warning when certain file types that may contain a virus are ran. File monitoring is enabled upon installation.
  • Added a Duplicate Account feature to the account list right-click menu. This is useful for configuring account aliases, or similar accounts.
  • Added ALT+DEL keyboard shortcut for deleting messages in full-screen view mode.
  • Added a right-click option for LDAP entries to copy into the Calypso clipboard. This makes it easy to copy an LDAP address into a message you are already working on.
  • Added internal support for importing Netscape and Outlook messages. For more information on importing these formats, click here.
  • Added code to speed up the auto-saving of attachments, either from a filter or when archiving mail.
  • Added support for mapping the message Followup status to priority when sending. (Account Properties/Outgoing Mail)
  • Added support for mapping incoming message priority to Followup status (Account Properties/Incoming Mail)
  • Added a Properties option to folder right-click menus. This provides statistical information about the folder and any options, if available.
  • Added the ability to specify which folder Calypso will display when started using the folder Properties menu option.
  • Added a separator token <<FA>> to access the From Address.
  • Added To and From columns to the summary list (hidden by default). The To column will only show the first 80 characters of the field.
  • Added support for character translation using the following encoding types: ISO-8859-1, ISO-8859-2, ISO-8859-5, WIN1250, WIN1251 and KOI8R.
  • Added ability to filter on attachment names.
  • Added ALT+C support for short message headers (similar to ALT+V)
  • Added ability to change group membership from an address entry.
  • The ESC key will now close the LDAP window.
  • Added support for Time & Chaos v5.3.82 and above. (Has new group architecture).
  • Added /compressexit command-line option. Causes the mailbox to close and compress. This is useful for scheduled mailbox compression through the Windows Scheduled Tasks.
  • Enhanced the Mailbox Servicing Progress panel to calculate an estimated complete time, and to show a total progress bar.
  • Added the ability to set the preview font from the Mailbox/Properties/Character Set panel. Previously this could only be set from the Windos/Change Preview Font... menu.
  • Made the Mailbox Password panel of the mailbox wizard a little easier to understand.
  • Importing Eudora messages now properly handles Rich Text (HTML) message imports.
  • The ESC key will now close the Details window.
  • Rich Text (HTML) print header is now formatted more closely to the plain text print header.
  • The auto-response address comparison (for monitoring auto-response messages) is now case-insensitive.
  • The To address column has been limited to displaying only the first 80 characters of the field.
  • Sometimes, going from an initial Rich Text message to a Plain Text would cause the scroll bar to display incorrectly.
  • Message headers over 4Kb in size are now truncated before displaying.
  • Changed message archive to use relative attachment path instead of absolute to support moving of the archive tree.
Bug Fixes:
  • Sometimes, going from a Rich Text message to Plain Text and back to Rich Text in the preview window would cause the first Rich Text message to display momentarily while the new one was being loaded.
  • Deleting an address from a bulk file (during filtering) would sometimes cause the file to be truncated at that address.
  • Archiving Rich Text messages with attachments would cause the attachments to be saved even if the Save Attachments option was unchecked.
  • In a low resource condition, failure to create a message window or frame would cause Calypso to crash.
  • Signatures were allowed to have duplicate aliases, this is no longer true.
  • Sometimes, deleting a message before it was completely filtered would cause Calypso to crash. (Some filter actions do not take place until Calypso has disconnected from the server).
  • Fixed a problem with Lotus Notes messages causing inline messages to display as attachments.
  • An error message will now be displayed when trying to open a mailbox stored on read-only media (e.g. CD).
  • Calypso would stop sending when sending to a Time & Chaos address group having an entry without an e-mail address.
  • When deleting a message residing in the wastebasket from the Search Results list,
    1) the delete confirmation did not appear and
    2) the list did not refresh correctly, giving the appearance the two messages were deleted.
  • Renaming an attachment and hitting ENTER would cause it to open.
  • In some cases messages with attachments would not display the correct message size.
  • Hitting DEL from the Filter Defnition window to delete a rule was causing the underlying definition to be deleted.
  • Fixed problem with Windows 2000 install. (Note: You must have Administrator rights to install Calypso on Windows 2000).
  • Added option to store LDAP server entries in the mailbox (user) or in the registry (system).
  • Added attachment support to Eudora message import.
  • When you retrieve a message where you only had the header or a part of the message, Calypso now re-filters the message.
  • Added button in the New Mail dialog to perform a Show New Messages.
  • Enabled support for TNEF attachments, since you can now get a freeware TNEF viewer. (TNEF is a proprietary Microsoft attachment format)
  • Added option to embed as well as link images within Rich Text (HTML) messages. (Mailbox/Properties/Attachments)
  • Fixed some places where file browsing did not start in the appropriate directory.
  • Rewrote the MAPI interface for more robustness and to support more Simple MAPI features. Once you upgrade to Calypso version 3.2, you must replace your MAPI dll with version 2.0, available from the resource page.

Version 3.1
March 15, 2000 3.10.03 (Build 1018) calypso.exe 4,123,960 bytes

This is a minor fix release as follows (See version 3.1 new features below):

  • Fixed a problem with the content type of sent Rich Text messages resulting in the loss of "quoted printable" information in the message header. This also corrects the archive and import of these messages.
  • Fixed a rare message import problem selecting the wrong original account.
  • Added an option to bypass the alias and email address duplicate checks during the address book import of delimited files. These checks will not be made if the input file extension is ".unq" indicating that all of the alias and address entries in the file are unique. This considerably speeds up the import of large files.
  • Modified Return-receipts processing for compatibility with new method used by newer e-mail servers.
  • Fix a problem causing the signature to be sent after it had been deleted when resending a previously sent message.

February 21, 2000 3.10.01 (Build 1013) calypso.exe 4,416,125 bytes

This is a minor fix release correcting the following problems (See version 3.1 new features below):

  • Fixed a database conversion problem that would cause the vCard assignment to select the wrong address entry.
NOTE: All Users should verify their vCard assignment for each account by checking the vCard column of each account in the Accounts folder. To reassign, go to the address book and right-click on the entry to use and set it as the vCard for the appropriate account.
